'Greenwashing': The meaning of true eco-friendly clothing, fabrics

MUNCIE, Ind. – The concept of “greenwashing” involves unsupported claims made by brands to deceive consumers into believing that their products are more environmentally friendly than they actually are. For example, clothing companies will often use words such as “eco-friendly,” “natural” or “organic” to do so.

While some brands are truthful about where their dyes, materials and prints come from, not every brand is. Factors like responsible sourcing, usage of natural dyes and ethical manufacturing are all pieces of the big puzzle that is sustainable shopping, and this puzzle could potentially impact your health and the economy overall if not navigated properly.....

Flight mask mandate lifted

According to the Associated Press, Major airlines and many of the busiest airports rushed to drop their mask requirements yesterday after the Biden administration’s mandate was overturned by the US district judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle in Tampa, who judged the rule as exceeding the authority of US health officials in the coronavirus pandemic.

She added that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had failed to justify its decision and did not follow proper rulemaking procedures.

BSU hits new donation record

According to the One Ball State Website, Ball State was able to raise $1,012,653 and received 7,199 gifts.

Changes coming to the village

According to a press release by Ball State, The Ball State University Board of Trustees took a major step on Friday to advance a long-term, phased revitalization plan for the Village.

Governor Holcomb vetoes bill targeting transgender athletes

Crisis in Ukraine

The invasion of Ukraine at the hands of Vladimir Putin has commenced.

According to the Associated Press, Russia launched a wide-ranged attack on Ukraine, hitting cities and bases with airstrikes or shelling. Civilians have been piling into trains and cars in attempts to flee the areas and Ukraine’s government said Russian tanks and troops rolled across the border in a “full-scale war.”

Indiana house bill 1116 latest in controversial Indiana bills

House Bill 1116, authored by Representative Timothy Wesco, Co-authored by representative Timothy O’Brien and Representative Ethan Manning, and sponsored by Senator Jon Ford, passed out of the Senate elections committee on Monday, despite clear opposition from Democrats.

Indiana's house bill 1134 under fire

House Bill 1134, authored by rep. Anthony Cook, co-authored by Rep. J.D. Prescott and Chuck Goodrich, sponsored by Sen. Linda Rogers, passed the Indiana House on a 60-37 vote on Wednesday night with 9 Republicans joining House Democrats to oppose the bill. The Bill is now headed to the Senate. How to Create More Attainable Resolutions for the New Year

2021 is a highly anticipated year for everyone: new president, new vaccine, new tv shows, new climate policies, and New Year’s resolutions. I agree that 2020 was not a good year, but no one knows if 2021 will be any better, because the truth of the matter is that bad events don’t stop happening because it’s “a new year!”. My name is Taylor Staples and I'm from Chicago, IL. I'm currently a senior at Ball State University dual majoring in Telecommunications and Journalism both with a concentration in News. I'm also minoring in both Screenwriting and Film and Studio Art.

I love to discuss pop culture, listen to podcasts (I even made one of my own), and deliberate about television and movies. I'm also an avid video game player and try to draw or write as much as possible in my free time.

In my time at Ball State, I've been apart of WCRD 91.3 Radio where I was a writer and anchor for their news show, made graphics for Cardinal Catholic, and I was a content writer, editor and now the co-head of Her Campus Ball State, an online magazine for college women. In addition to these clubs, I work at the Ball State Digital Corps, a student-centered creative IT agency with 6 interdisciplinary teams. I am on the Communications Team. I write scripts, create social media content, write copy, and more.
